Unraveling the Path to Optimal Pregnancy Nutrition: My Debut Blog Post as a Pregnancy Nutritionist

Hey there, Mama-to-be!

Welcome to Nesting Nutrition LLC, your ultimate guide to thriving in your pregnancy with the power of real food! I'm Amanda Dotts, a Registered Dietitian specializing in pregnancy nutrition (more simply put - a pregnancy nutritionist), with a Bachelor of Science degree in Dietetics from Montana State University. I’m lucky enough to call northern Idaho my home and I support mamas in the beautiful states of Idaho and Washington. For those of you who don’t call these states home, don’t worry, I also provide online pregnancy courses that are available nationwide!

I'm here to share my passion for helping women like you nourish your bodies, optimize your pregnancies, and have an amazing postpartum experience. Trust me, I've been there too! After my own pregnancy journey in 2021, I realized the lack of nutrition education in our area for moms during this crucial time. That's why I created Nesting Nutrition LLC, to provide you with the knowledge and empowerment you deserve to make the most out of this incredible period in your life.

Let's get personal, shall we?

Besides being a nutrition guru for the past 10 years, I'm all about spending time with family and staying active. When I'm not nerding out about macronutrients, vitamins and minerals, you can find me in full mom mode – reading toddler books, dancing to silly music and playing with toy trucks (you’ll understand if you’re having a boy haha). I also love going for leisurely walks and bike rides, exploring local parks, and enjoying quality moments with my husband, son, and fur child (Oakley the Frenchie).

But that's not all—I'm also a firm believer in balance. I know that to be the best version of myself for my family and my clients, I also need “me time”. My favorite way to recharge is through exercise. You can frequently find me getting lost in the music on my Peloton and embracing the shake at Pure Barre Coeur d'Alene (IYKYK). These are my secret weapons for staying fit and energized!

As a mom of a young toddler and a business owner, it can be quite challenging to find “me time”, let alone time for dates with my husband. However, we do our best to get out and enjoy all four seasons in beautiful Northern Idaho. Picture us surfing behind our boat on lake CDA during the summer (our son loves watching us surf), tearing up the trails on our dirt bikes in the spring and fall, and whooshing through the snow on our snow bikes in the winter. Oh, and did I mention we're huge country music fans? We have been to all but two Watershed Festivals!!! We love embracing life to the fullest and pride ourselves in raising our son to find joy in the same hobbies.

Now, let's talk food, glorious food!

I believe that real food is the superhero of your pregnancy journey. It's like a magic potion that nourishes both you and your growing baby. By focusing on nutrient-dense whole foods, we can arm your body with the vitamins, minerals, and macronutrients it needs to support optimal fetal development, keep you in tip-top shape, and make your postpartum experience a breeze.

You may be wondering what my stance is on prenatal supplements. While real food should ALWAYS be the foundation of your nourishment, there’s no denying that high quality supplements have their place in the pregnancy and postpartum periods. They can help fill in the gaps and act as an insurance policy for nutrients that can be challenging to consistently obtain in optimal amounts through food alone. I know there are other practitioners out there that have different opinions about prenatal supplements and to be honest, it’s quite frustrating…..I feel my next blog topic coming to fruition haha!
